V2X Tolling

Company Overview

We build high performing electronic tolling roadside systems. Coming from an aerospace engineering pedigree, we can choose to buy or build any component we need. We integrate transponder readers from leading suppliers, but also engineer and build our own readers. Our automatic license plate reader camera is our own design using best-of-breed components assembled in our own clean-room. Q-Free regularly says that our license plate images are the best in the industry. Our systems perform well upon start-up and get better over time because of our sustaining engineering approach to long-term maintenance.

Our History

In 1997, Raytheon/Hughes Aerospace developed the world’s first open road tolling system for the Toronto, Ontario, 407 Electronic Toll Road. Shortly after that we delivered the all‑electronic tolling system for Highway 6 for the Cross Israel Highway. Both of these first generation systems use separate positioning antennas to implement two-dimensional tracking of the transponder in the toll zone, providing high accuracy vehicle tracking and superior correlation of sensor data.
